On 21st March, 2004, in conclusion to a Special Presidential Retreat on Service Delivery in Nigeria, the President and the Ministers entered into a Service Compact with All Nigerians (Servicom) whose core provision says: “We dedicate ourselves to providing the basic services to which each citizen is entitled in a timely, honest, effective and transparent manner.

 

By SERVICOM, it was also agreed that all Ministries, Parastatals, agencies and all other Government Department will prepare and publish SERVICOM Charters whose provision will include:

1. Quality services designed around the requirements of their customers and served by trained staff sensitive to the needs of their clients.

2. Setting out the entitlements of the citizens with whom they interact clearly and in ways they can readily understand.

3. List of fees payable (if any) and prohibit the asking for and the making of additional payments.

4. Commitment to the provision of services (including the processing of applications and the answering of correspondence) within realistic set time-frames.

5. Details of agencies and government officials to whom complaints about any failures to provide such services should be addressed.

6. Publish these details in conspicuous places accessible to the public in all buildings where the agencies provide their services

7. Periodically conduct and publish surveys to determine levels of customer satisfaction and the extent to which particular Ministries and Agencies and Departments are seen to be honouring their SERVICOM commitments.

SERVICOM IN UNIVERSITY OF LAGOS

Consequence upon the provision, the Quality Assurance and Servicom Unit of the University of Lagos was formally established on May 12, 2012. The pioneer Director and Deputy Director were Professor Solomon AdewaleOkunuga and Dr. VirgyOnyene(now Professor). The current Director and Deputy Director are Professor LucianObinnaChukwu and Dr. Dr. S.A. Oladipo.

The Quality Assurance and Servicom Unit office is located at the second floor, Old Senate Building, Opposite J.F. Ade Ajayi Auditorium entrance, by University Cash Office.
