The Quality Assurance Unit of the University of Lagos has a rich history that dates back to 2004, when the core principles of Service Compact with All Nigerians (SERVICOM) were introduced. These principles emphasized the importance of providing basic services in a timely, honest, effective, and transparent manner. Consequently, the Quality Assurance and SERVICOM Unit was formally established on May 12, 2012, operating under the Office of the Vice Chancellor.
Since its inception, the Unit has been led by a Director who reports directly to the Vice Chancellor, supported by a Deputy Director. The team includes Desk Officers for Quality Assurance and SERVICOM, a Media and Information Management Officer, Monitoring and Evaluation Officers, an Administrative Secretary, and an Administrative Assistant.
Over the years, the Unit has had five Directors, starting with Prof. Cecelia Igwilo, who served as the Director of Academic Planning and the Director of the Quality Assurance and SERVICOM Unit from 2006 to 2012. She was succeeded by Prof. Solomon Adewale Okunuga, who served from 2012 to 2016, followed by Prof. L. O. Chukwu from 2016 to 2019, and Prof. Grace O. Otinwa from 2019 to 2023. The current Director, Prof. Olufemi Saibu, assumed office on May 1, 2023.
The Unit has also had several Deputy Directors, including Dr. Virgy Onyene, Dr. Immaculate Nwokolo, Dr. S. Adebayo Oladipo, Dr. Solomon O. Azumurana, Dr. Ayodele Elizabeth Omotayo, and the current Deputy Director, Dr. Eno Akarawak, who will serve until 2026.
Throughout its history, the Quality Assurance Unit has remained committed to promoting excellence and accountability within the University of Lagos, ensuring that the institution remains true to its core values of providing quality services to its stakeholders.

The Quality Assurance Unit of the University of Lagos oversees; Quality Assurance Matters, SERVICOM– Service Delivery Matters, Anti-Corruption and Transparency matters. The overall objective of the Quality Assurance system is to continuously promote and improve the quality of the core activities and the institution as a whole.
